World Music Day: The global community is celebrating the World Music Day on Wednesday. Also known as Fête-de-la- Musique, it is an annual celebration that promotes the strength of music and its universal language. Musicians and music lovers from around the world come together to perform and enjoy various genres of music on World Music Day. Free concerts are also organized, where musicians play for fun and not for payment on this day.
The first World Music Day was celebrated in Paris on the day of the summer solstice, back in the year 1982 on June 21, and was initiated by Jack Lang, then Minister of Culture of France, and by Maurice Fleuret who was the then Director of Music and Dance at the French Ministry of Culture. Music Day is celebrated in over 700 cities across 120 countries around the globe world including India, Germany, Italy, Greece, Russia, Australia, Peru, Brazil, Ecuador, Mexico, Canada, the United States, the UK, Japan, and others.
