Pinellas County Schools Close as Helene Nears Florida

After consulting with the county emergency management department, the Pinellas County school district announced it will close all schools and offices Wednesday and Thursday.

All sports and school activities for those two days also are canceled. Tuesday’s sports and activities are set to take place as scheduled.

Superintendent Kevin Hendrick said the district acted early, with the storm still taking shape, as a way to give families and staff time to prepare.

“As of now now decision has been made for Friday,” Hendrick said. “As soon as a decision has been made, it will be communicated.”

The district will provide additional updates on its website at pcsb.org/weather and on its social media.

The county government declared a local state of emergency on Tuesday morning, effective for seven days.
