Australia Defeats India by 184 Runs in Melbourne Test
In the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy – Melbourne Test, Australia secured a commanding 184-run victory against India on the fifth and final day of the fourth Test in Melbourne. This defeat also marked the end of India’s campaign in the World Test Championship.
Chasing a target of 340, India faltered in their second innings, getting bowled out for 155. Yashasvi Jaiswal stood out with a valiant knock of 84 runs but was dismissed controversially, leaving little resistance from the rest of the batting lineup.
Australia’s bowling attack proved decisive, with Pat Cummins and Scott Boland taking three wickets apiece, while Nathan Lyon contributed with two dismissals. Pat Cummins was awarded Player of the Match for his stellar all-around performance, excelling with both bat and ball.
Earlier in the day, Australia, resuming their second innings at 228 for 9, managed to add just six runs to their total before being bowled out for 234. Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah shone with a remarkable five-wicket haul, displaying exceptional skill and determination.

In the first innings, Australia set the tone with a commanding 474 runs, led by Steven Smith’s masterful 140. India responded with 369 runs, thanks to Nitish Reddy’s gritty century of 114, but it wasn’t enough to prevent a deficit.
With this victory, Australia now leads the five-match series 2-1. The final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy is set to take place in Sydney, starting on January 3.
