Border-Gavaskar Trophy: India secured a monumental 295-run victory over Australia in the first Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at Perth’s Optus Stadium. This emphatic win not only ranks among India’s most significant Test triumphs but also marks the first-ever Test victory by a visiting team at the newly built Perth venue.

Key contributors to India’s success included skipper Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj, who each took three vital wickets to dismantle Australia’s second innings. On the batting side, Virat Kohli delivered an unbeaten century, while Yashasvi Jaiswal’s commanding 161 laid the foundation for India’s imposing target of 534 runs.

For Australia, Travis Head stood out with a valiant 89 runs. Mitchell Marsh chipped in with 47, and Alex Carey added 36, but the hosts faltered under pressure.

Starting their second innings on the final day, Australia were bowled out for 238, falling well short of the target. Jasprit Bumrah’s all-around contribution earned him the Player of the Match award.

This comprehensive victory propelled India to the top of the ICC World Test Championship standings, with a points percentage of 61.11, overtaking Australia, who now sit second with 57.69%. India also took a 1-0 lead in the five-match series.
