India Defeat Sri Lanka in Women’s T20 World Cup in Dubai
In the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup, India achieved their largest-ever margin of victory in tournament history, defeating Sri Lanka by 82 runs in a Group ‘A’ match at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium last night. India, opting to bat first, posted a formidable total of 172 runs, powered by skipper Harmanpreet Kaur’s quickfire 52 and vice-captain Smriti Mandhana’s fearless 50.
In response, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 90 runs in 19.5 overs. Kaveesha Dilhari was the top scorer for Sri Lanka with 21 runs. India’s bowling attack was led by Arundhati Reddy and Asha Sobhana, who claimed three wickets each, while Renuka Singh Thakur took two wickets. Harmanpreet Kaur was named Player of the Match for her all-round performance.
This victory pushed India ahead of Pakistan and New Zealand in Group A, improving their net run rate and boosting their chances in the tournament. Meanwhile, Sri Lanka, the reigning Asian Women’s Champions, were eliminated from the competition following this defeat.
