India Women defeat West Indies Women by 60 runs to win T20 series 2-1

India defeated the West Indies by 60 runs in the third and final match of the Women’s T20I series, securing a 2-1 victory at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai last night.

After being put in to bat, India recorded their highest-ever total in T20Is, amassing 217 for four in 20 overs. The innings was powered by a stellar knock from Smriti Mandhana, who scored 77 runs off 47 balls, and a blistering 54 runs off just 21 balls by Richa Ghosh. Richa’s innings featured her equaling the world record for the fastest fifty in Women’s T20Is, reaching the milestone in just 18 balls.

Chasing a daunting target, the West Indies managed to score 157 for nine in their allotted 20 overs. Radha Yadav was the standout bowler for India, claiming four wickets to derail the opposition’s chase.

Richa Ghosh was named Player of the Match for her explosive half-century, while Smriti Mandhana was adjudged Player of the Series for her consistent performances, including three half-centuries and a total of 193 runs in the series.

India will now turn their attention to a three-match ODI series against the West Indies, scheduled for the 22nd, 24th, and 27th of this month.

Shami to Miss Bengal’s Vijay Hazare Opener Against Delhi

Veteran Indian pacer Mohammad Shami will be rested for Bengal’s Vijay Hazare Trophy opener against Delhi in Hyderabad tomorrow. The Cricket Association of Bengal announced the decision yesterday.

Shami, who last played for India at the 2023 ODI World Cup, recently made a strong comeback following ankle surgery. He delivered an impressive performance in Bengal’s Ranji Trophy win over Madhya Pradesh, taking seven wickets. Additionally, he claimed nine wickets in 11 games during the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy.

India skipper Rohit Sharma, addressing Shami’s fitness, mentioned after the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series at the Gabba in Brisbane, which ended in a rain-hit draw, that Shami’s availability for the team’s tour of Australia depends on clearance from the National Cricket Academy.
