India Women Triumph Over WI by 211 Runs in 1st ODI

In a spectacular display of cricket, India Women defeated the West Indies Women by a massive margin of 211 runs in the first ODI of the three-match ICC Championship series held in Vadodara on Sunday evening.

The Indian women set a challenging target of 315 runs after being put into bat, scoring 314 for nine in their allotted 50 overs. Smriti Mandhana was the star of the innings, smashing 91 off 102 balls with 13 boundaries, marking her fourth consecutive half-century. She shared a solid 110-run opening partnership with debutant Pratika Rawal, who impressed with 40 runs off 69 balls in her maiden ODI appearance.

Contributions from Harleen Deol (44) and skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (34) further strengthened the innings, with a 66-run stand. Jemimah Rodrigues added a quick-fire 31 to boost India’s total. For the West Indies, Zaida James stood out with a five-wicket haul, while Harley Mathews and Deandra Dottin chipped in with two and one wicket, respectively.

In response, the West Indies struggled against India’s bowling attack and were dismissed for just 103 runs in 26.2 overs. Renuka Thakur Singh delivered an exceptional performance, taking five wickets for 29 runs in her 10-over spell. Priya Mishra claimed two wickets, while Titas Sadhu and Deepti Sharma picked up one each.

The Indian bowlers dismantled the Caribbean batting lineup, leaving no room for a fightback.

The second and third ODIs of the series are scheduled for December 24 and December 27, 2024, respectively, with both matches set to be played in Vadodara.
