The third Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy at the Gabba in Brisbane ended in a thrilling draw as rain disrupted play on the final day. India, batting in their second innings, were 8 for no loss, chasing 267 runs for victory, when the weather intervened, leaving both teams without a decisive result.
Earlier on day five, India were bowled out for 260 in their first innings in response to Australia’s commanding total of 445. Resuming at an overnight score of 252 for nine, India managed to add just eight runs before the innings ended. Jasprit Bumrah, unbeaten on 10, and Akash Deep, with a valiant 31, had staged a crucial partnership of 47 runs for the last wicket on day four, helping India avoid the follow-on.
K L Rahul was the standout performer for India with a solid 84, while Ravindra Jadeja contributed an impressive 77. Australia’s bowling attack, led by Pat Cummins, delivered key blows, with Cummins taking 4 wickets, including those of Rohit Sharma and Jadeja. Mitchell Starc supported well with 3 wickets.
The five-match series remains evenly poised at 1-1, setting the stage for an exciting fourth Test, scheduled to begin on the 26th of this month in Melbourne. Both teams will be eager to gain an upper hand as the contest for the coveted Border-Gavaskar Trophy heats up.
