Elton John, 77, revealed to the audience at the opening night of The Devil Wears Prada: The Musical in London on December 1 that he could not see the stage due to vision loss. According to The Daily Mail, the legendary musician, who composed the musical’s score, shared his struggle during his address to the crowd.
“As some of you may know, I have had issues, and now I have lost my sight. I haven’t been able to see the performance, but I have enjoyed it,” John said.
The singer’s husband, David Furnish, 62, helped him offstage and was commended for his unwavering support. John expressed gratitude to Furnish for being his “rock” throughout this challenging time, noting that he relied on his husband during the show’s previews. Despite his inability to visually experience the production, he praised its music and thanked the audience for attending.
A Long Battle with Vision Problems
In a recent interview with Good Morning America, John disclosed that he lost vision in his right eye over the summer due to an infection he contracted in the South of France. His left eye, already compromised, has compounded the difficulty.
