PM Modi will begin a two-day visit to Russia tomorrow to attend the 16th BRICS Summit, hosted in Kazan.

The summit, themed “Strengthening Multilateralism for Just Global Development and Security,” will bring together leaders from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa to discuss pressing global issues and assess the progress of BRICS initiatives.

India’s Ambassador to Russia, Vinay Kumar, noted in a conversation with Akashvani Correspondent that the summit offers an important platform for leaders to engage on key topics. Prime Minister Modi is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Briefing reporters in New Delhi, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri highlighted India’s active role in BRICS since its inception. He emphasized that India has made significant contributions in shaping BRICS efforts in areas like economic growth, sustainable development, and global governance reforms.

The Foreign Secretary also explained that this year’s summit will focus on integrating new members into BRICS cooperation mechanisms. The two-day event will aim to enhance economic collaboration, energy and food security, healthcare, and youth exchanges. Notably, this is the first summit after the historic expansion of BRICS at the Johannesburg Summit last year.

Mr. Misri added that while the summit begins tomorrow, the main events will take place on Wednesday, with Prime Minister Modi expected to attend several bilateral meetings on the sidelines.
