At least 28 bodies have been recovered from the icy waters of the Potomac River in Washington, DC, following a tragic mid-air collision between an American Airlines passenger jet and a Black Hawk helicopter.

The accident occurred as the aircraft was preparing to land at Ronald Reagan National Airport. The commercial flight carried 60 passengers and four crew members, while three soldiers were aboard the military helicopter.

Both aircraft plunged into the river after impact. Fire and Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Chief John A. Donnelly confirmed that no survivors are expected, stating that rescue efforts have now shifted to a recovery mission.

Among those on board the jet was a group of figure skaters, along with their coaches and family members, returning from a development camp following the US Figure Skating Championships in Wichita, Kansas.

The Kremlin reported that two renowned former Russian figure skaters, Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, were also passengers on the flight. Kremlin spokesman Dmitri Peskov further revealed that other Russian nationals were on board as well.

Following the tragedy, US President Donald Trump criticized the incident, suggesting it could have been avoided. In a social media post, he questioned why authorities failed to instruct the helicopter to alter its course. Meanwhile, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that the Pentagon and the Army have launched an immediate investigation into the crash.
