Why Shiva devotees love bhang on Maha Shivratri?

Bhang holds a very important cultural significance on the occasion of Maha Shivratri. At many places like Varanasi, it is distributed among people as “Shiv Prasad.”

It is believed that on Maha Shivaratri, Lord Shiva married Goddess Parvati.

During the occasion of Maha Shivratri, devotees consume bhang to celebrate the festival. The grinding of bhang is very special and is considered to be an art at several places. In Bollywood movies, one of the favorite songs on this occasion is  “Jai Jai Shiv Shankar” from “Aap Ki Kasam”.
