Ukraine’s Ministry of Youth and Sports has announced that high jumper Yaroslava Mahuchikh has been named the Best European Athlete of 2024 by European Athletics. The prestigious award was presented during the Golden Tracks ceremony held in Skopje, North Macedonia, as reported by Ukrinform.
Mahuchikh’s stellar performance throughout 2024 secured her this recognition. She broke the world record in high jump, clinched the Olympic gold medal, and emerged as the European champion. Additionally, she earned a silver medal at the Indoor World Championships and claimed victory in the Diamond League final for the third consecutive year.
This isn’t Mahuchikh’s first recognition by European Athletics. In 2019, she received the ‘Rising Star’ award, marking the beginning of her illustrious career.

In her acceptance speech, Mahuchikh expressed pride and solidarity with her nation:
“For me, as for every Ukrainian, each victory is important because it provides an opportunity to show that we are fighting and continue to do so in all fields. Finally, I have the award for the best athlete of the year in Europe. It is for all Ukrainians.”
