What is Low-cost Virtual Reality technology?
Low Cost Virtual Reality
Low-cost VR, also called personal computer (PC)-based Virtual Reality, uses inexpensive devices such as Personal Computers and Virtual Reality glasses, combined with VR-enabled software applications or playstations and projectors, to partially immerse viewers in a virtual scene.
The benefits of low-cost virtual reality hardware are obvious; high performance systems which were previously exclusive to research institutions with well funded budget can now be constructed relatively cheaper. The reduced price/performance ratio has positive implications for hospitals, educational institutions, museums and other organizations where funding of new technologies are often limited. Previously disadvantaged communities can
also benefit from this new technology.
In education, cheap Virtual Reality can provide a massive quality education through the interactive learning environment; in medicine, cheap virtual environment has been shown to provide promising results in the field of exposure therapy.
