John Krasinski has been named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” for 2024. The title was officially announced on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Tuesday night, though some initial confusion online led fans to speculate that music producer Benny Blanco had received the honor after a magazine clipping showed him with a “Sexiest Man Alive Issue” mention nearby. Krasinski now follows last year’s honoree, Patrick Dempsey.
Best known for his role as Jim Halpert in The Office, Krasinski has since transformed his career with hit projects like the A Quiet Place franchise, which he co-wrote and directed, and Amazon’s action series Jack Ryan, where he takes on the iconic role of CIA analyst Jack Ryan.
In a playful interview with People, Krasinski shared that his wife, actress Emily Blunt, might finally use his “Sexiest Man Alive” cover as wallpaper—a long-running joke between the two. When he first received the news, Krasinski said he felt “just immediate blackout…Zero thoughts” and even wondered if he was being pranked.
This year has been a busy one for Krasinski. He recently released IF, his sixth directorial feature, which also stars Blunt and explores the lives of imaginary friends. The couple, who share two daughters, are known for their down-to-earth relationship and humor. Krasinski joked to People that his new title might mean more household chores: “After this comes out, she’ll be like, ‘All right, that means you’re going to really earn it here at home.’”
With this honor, Krasinski joins a prestigious list of past titleholders, including Paul Rudd, Michael B. Jordan, George Clooney, Brad Pitt, John Legend, Idris Elba, Chris Hemsworth, and Channing Tatum. People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” feature has remained a beloved annual tradition for decades. The 2024 issue will be available on Friday.
